Add a Solaris JumpStart System

CA Server Automation integrates with Solaris JumpStart, so that you can add a client computer and image it with a Solaris operating system. Solaris 10 x86 clients are supported. The Solaris JumpStart imaging server already must be installed and functioning, and you must have the host name and MAC addresses of the system that you want to image. You can configure multiple installation and boot servers; however, one JumpStart adapter must be installed and configured on each JumpStart boot server and installation server.

Note: For more information about configuring Solaris JumpStart, see the Administration Guide.

Follow these steps:

  1. Click Resources, and open the Explore pane.
  2. Right-click a resource, and select Provisioning, Provision Solaris SPARC/x86.
  3. Complete the following fields:
    JS Boot Server

Defines the Solaris JumpStart server that hosts the boot images.

    JS Boot Image

Lists the Solaris boot images available on the Solaris JumpStart server. Select the boot image that you want on the target computer.

    JS Install Server

Lists the name of the Solaris JumpStart server that you specified during installation. This server hosts all of the Solaris installation images.

    JS Install Image

Lists the Solaris operating system images available on the JumpStart server. Select the image that you want to install on the target computer.

    Name

Defines the name of the target computer.

    MAC Address

Defines the hardware address of the target computer.

    Username

Defines the root user used for agent deployment.

    Password

Defines the root user password used for agent deployment.

    Service Processor Host Name

Identifies the Service Processor on the Solaris 10 x86 client system.

    Username

Specifies the root user or any user name defined at the service processor firmware level that has privileges for rebooting the system or setting the boot options through the service processor.

    Password

Specifies the root password or any user password defined at the service processor firmware level for the user that has privileges for rebooting the system or setting the boot options through the service processor.

    DHCP Server Name

Identifies the Solaris DHCP server that temporarily assigns IP addresses to Solaris 10 x86 clients during a PXE boot, and provides a reference to the JumpStart boot file and boot server. The DHCP server is required for imaging Solaris 10 x86 clients.

    Template

Lists the software package groups already created and available for use as templates.

    DSM Boot/Scalability Server

Serves as the primary interface for the agent and distributes the CA Unicenter DSM workload across multiple hosts. Software delivery adapter supports multiple scalability servers for software distribution.

  4. Click Add Computer.

The imaging process starts on the client computer. When the imaging process is complete, the computer is properly discovered and classified.

Note: Imaging takes time, so you should expect a delay during operating system installation. For more efficient discovery, you can adjust the discovery retry time or the interval in the caimgconf.cfg file located at: install_path\CA\productname\conf.
