For some resources, you want the region to perform monitoring only while operation is performed directly by the operating system. If you implement a monitoring-only resource definition that does not contain any operations methods (for example, inactivation method), then when the resource is to be started or stopped, the resource is forced into the MANUAL operation mode. If the resource is in a parent-child relationship, this results in the startup or shutdown process being stopped for that relationship.
To prevent the resource from being forced into the MANUAL operation mode, specify a dummy process on the Activation and the Inactivation Details panels. The process should set the return code to zero, which in turn causes the actual state of the resource to be set to ACTIVE or INACTIVE as required. This enables the continuation of the startup or shutdown operation.
