Compare Configurations

This option enables comparing two different configurations and showing their differences. A typical process involves downloading files from a production server of an organization and performing role discovery and audit on those files. The Compare Configurations option is a comparison that is made after discovery and audit processes have been performed. The original configuration from the production server is compared to the configuration after applying discovery and audit processes. The Role Engineer then examines the differences to verify that the changes are correct. In the final stage of the process, the new configuration is exported to the productions server, and the original databases of the production server are updated.

The Role Engineer has the option to display or not display the Compare Configurations output, which is a Differences Report and/or Updates Log. Both the Differences Report and the Updates Log are displayed in a Windows Notepad window that enables on-the-spot editing and saving the file.

Note: CA RCM produces an Updates Log file and Reports Log file whether or not the Role Engineer chooses to displayed it. These files, named DiffLog.txt and Diffreport.txt, can be opened at any time in a text editor such as Notepad for consultation or editing purposes.
