The QuickPSB Facility

As with Segments and DBDs, defining IMS PSBs (Program Specification Blocks) within the repository requires the insertion of a number of occurrences to many different meta-entity types.

Inserting each of the necessary entities, relationships, and associations in the proper sequence can often be a time consuming task. However, the QuickPSB facility provides an alternate method for inserting, updating, deleting, and browsing the components required for a complete PSB definition.

As mentioned in the previous chapter, the QuickPSB Facility simplifies the PSB definition process by allowing you to define or maintain many of the primary attributes of the PSB-specific meta-entity types from within a small set of windows. These windows arrange the components of the PSB Model in a logical format that eliminates the need to explicitly declare the model's associations and relationships, thereby significantly simplifying and accelerating the PSB design and maintenance process.

The entity, relationship, and association types that are used or affected by the QuickPSB facility are shown in the following illustration. Note that several components have been shaded in the illustration. This indicates that QuickPSB will not insert or update these types of entities. However, the QuickDBD and QuickSegment facilities can be used to insert and maintain these entity types. Note that all the connections shown in the model, even those connected to the shaded entities, can be maintained with QuickPSB.
