Create Protocol Groups

You can set up protocol groups to streamline custom report creation. For example, suppose that you want to let everyone easily create reports on network traffic that certain applications generate. To do this, you create a group for each of the custom applications. Each of these groups includes the appropriate custom application port ranges. Users can choose from the protocol groups that CA Network Flow Analysis automatically maintains and the custom groups that you specifically create for their environment.

Follow these steps:

1. Open the Protocol Group Configuration page:
   1. Select Administration from the NFA console menu.

      The Administration page opens.

   2. Select Groups: Protocol Groups from the Administration page menu.

      The Protocol Group Configuration page opens and displays information about the currently selected protocol group.

2. Click Add.

   The Protocol Group Configuration page now includes options for identifying a new protocol group.

3. Enter values in the Group Name and Description boxes, then click Submit.

   A new shell group is created. The Protocol Group Configuration page displays information about the new protocol group. The new protocol group is added to the Protocol Group Index dialog in the Custom Report wizard.

4. Click List.

   Domain and list options are added to the Protocol Group Configuration page.

5. Review and make any needed corrections to the Domain setting.
6. Click the Add/Remove tab in the protocols section.

   A dialog opens, which shows a list of available protocols (protocols that currently are not included in the group) and a list of the protocols that are included.

7. Select the protocols that you want to add to the group.

   To select multiple protocols to add simultaneously, use the Shift and Control keys.

   To filter the protocol list, enter a search string in the Filter the Protocol List field box, then click Apply. For example, to show only UDP protocols, enter *udp*.

   To view a list of all the protocol groups that contain a particular protocol, highlight the protocol and click Jump to Protocol.

8. Click Add.
9. Click Done when you have finished adding protocols to the group.

Notes:

• Editing: To change the name or description of a custom protocol group, select the group, click Edit, make the needed changes, then click Submit.
• Deleting protocols: To remove one or more protocols from a group, select the group, click List, click the Add/Remove tab, select the protocols to remove, click Remove, then click Done.
• Deleting a protocol group: To delete a custom protocol group, select the group, click Edit, then click Delete in the Edit a Protocol Group page that opens.
