NOTAVAILABLE Parameter

When the NOTAVAILABLE parameter is used, the device that was varied offline and NOTAVL can only be selected for allocation if the AUTOREPLY and IEF238D settings generate message MIM2060 during allocation recovery, allowing the operator to reply with that device, or if you issue the VARY AVAILABLE command for that device. TPCF intercepts and suppresses all VARY ONLINE commands for NOTAVAILABLE devices so that these devices are not varied online accidentally.

Examples:

• To make device 01A0 unavailable for allocation on the local system, issue this command:

  VARY 01A0 NOTAVAILABLE LOCAL
  

• To make this device unavailable for allocation on all systems, issue this command:

  VARY 01A0 NOTAVAILABLE GLOBAL
  

• To make the device unavailable on all systems except the local system, issue this command:

  VARY 01A0 NOTAVAILABLE EXTERNAL
  

• To make this device unavailable only on system SYS1, issue this command:

  VARY 01A0 NOTAVAILABLE SYS1
  

• To make this device available and online to the local system, issue this command:

  VARY 01A0 AVAILABLE LOCAL
