1.3 Requirements

The CA MICS Space Collector Option runs under all versions of z/OS 1.9 and higher.

VCC must run from an APF-authorized library to open and read
VSAM and ICF catalogs, enqueue VTOCs, optionally write
records to SMF, and run as nonswappable. Because VCC runs
multiple subtasks for efficiency, it may require a larger
region size than your standard default. The number of
subtasks can be user controlled to allow flexibility in
environments that are constrained in virtual storage.

VCC requires at least 3 megabytes of memory below the 16MB
line. This does not include storage required for its modules
and work areas. Therefore, we recommend running VCC with the
MINIMUM value of REGION=4M or REGION=4096K.

With large DASD configurations, you will want to run with
many subtasks (e.g. VTOCSUBT=8, VSAMSUBT=8). Therefore,
it is best if you routinely specify REGION=6M or REGION=7M to
avoid problems and allow for best performance.
