2.8.2.3 Exception Review and Management
The exception reporting capabilities provided with the
sysplex analysis function are designed to provide a concise,
integrated, and itemized list of the problems impacting on
the sysplex's effectiveness in terms of availability,
service, workload and performance.
With the degree of complexity involved in managing a
sysplexed environment, the exception process can be used as a
diagnostic filter to report specific problems. The means of
achieving this is by inputting available monitoring sources
(that is, the CA MICS files derived from RMF data), comparing
this data against predefined exception thresholds, and
providing an exception list of potential problems areas.
Exception reporting is designed to reduce the number and
volume of reports that the performance analyst has to wade
through for detection of potential bottlenecks in the
sysplex. The key requirements for successful use of this
analysis are setting of appropriate thresholds, and regular,
periodic, execution and monitoring of the generated reports.
