6.7 z/Architecture Highlights


The z/Architecture allows full 64-bit real and virtual
storage support.  Used in conjunction with the Intelligent
Resource Director (IRD), it is intended to eliminate
bottlenecks associated with the lack of addressable memory,
and dynamically manage the system resources to priority
workloads.

Since the immediate benefit of z/Architecture implementation
can be realized in the storage management area by the
elimination of the overhead of Central to Expanded pages
movement and ESA/390 2GB real storage constraint relief, the
following sections will focus on these two topics:

    1 - Support for 64-bit Real Storage
    2 - Removal of Expanded Storage
