6.2.3 Dropping Input Records
If your VM data contains records that produce CA MICS files
that are not used by your site, these records can be omitted
from processing in the USRSEL exit. Dropping these records
in USRSEL, rather than in the file exit, reduces the CPU
requirements in the DAY080 step of the CA MICS DAILY update.
For information on using the USRSEL exit, see section 10.2.1.
Alternatively, records can be dropped using the VM Data
Transfer Program record selection mechanism. This helps to
reduce data transfer time in addition to saving DAY080
processing time.
When coding USRSEL, use care when selecting which monitor
records to drop. The CA MICS Analyzer Option for VM/CMS
requires certain Domain 1 configuration records to maintain
data integrity. See Section 6.2.6 for a list of
configuration records and other monitor domains that are
dependent on domain 1 monitor records. Additional
information on which database files are populated by these
records is also provided.
