5.3.7.3 VMXXDS Usage Considerations


Special considerations or techniques related to using the
VMXXDS file are provided below:

o  This file is delivered with all timespans disabled.  To
   activate this file, modify VMCGENIN and DBMODEL.  Due to
   the volume of data that can be produced by the SEEKS
   domain, take care to properly limit the devices for which
   data is collected or maintained in the database.

o  The VMXXDS file contains one observation per seek for each
   device that is monitored for SEEK activity at the detail
   level.  This file can become large very quickly if many
   devices are monitored for seek activity or if the devices
   monitored are particularly active.

o  The VMXXDS file is organized by subchannel.  If there is
   more than one path to a device, analysis of all
   subchannels to the device will be necessary to obtain a
   complete picture of the seeks activity.
