Authentication Failed Error During CA Identity Manager Provisioning Server Upgrade

Valid on Windows

Symptom:

I attempted to perform an upgrade of the CA Identity Manager Provisioning Directory on Windows, and received the message "Authentication failed. Do you wish to create a new super-user account?". I was unable to continue with the upgrade.

This error occurs when you select the Full Installation option, followed by the Typical install option (Default: Binary-Only, Custom). When you provide the super-user username (etaadmin) and password of the Provisioning Server super-user on the Provisioning Server Administrator dialog and click Next, the error appears.

Note:If you experience an installation issue that does not match this description, contact CA Support.

Solution:

The error occurs because the "CA Identity Manager - Provisioning Server" service was stopped due to a dependency on CA Directory, which stopped when upgrading the CA Directory instance on the host before running the CA Identity Manager installer.

To resolve, do the following:

  1. When you receive the error message, click No on the Authentication Failed dialog.
  2. On the Provisioning Server Administrator dialog, click Back.
  3. Start the Windows Services application from the Control Panel.
  4. Start the CA Identity Manager - Provisioning Server service.
  5. In the installer, click Next.

The Provisioning Server Administrator dialog appears.

  6. Continue with the installation.
