The desktop.sxp file is obsolete!
Desktop.sxp was used when packaging Windows 3.1x and NT 3.51 products only. The Installer only supports the desktop.sxp in existing 'old' packages, created for Windows 3.1x and Windows NT 3.51 products. Products running under Windows NT Technology or Windows 9x/Me are packaged using the archive files links.sxp and ulinks.sxp.
Desktop.sxp controls the installation and uninstallation of groups, items, folders, links, and shortcuts on the desktop. The settings in this file are user-specific. The user-specific parameters were generated so that all users have access rights to the desktop objects (C and S flags).
The desktop.sxp archive file can have the following sections:
Create the items during installation.
Creates the shortcuts during installation. This section is used only for Windows NT Technology and Windows 9x/Me.
Creates the folders during installation. This section is used only for Windows NT Technology and Windows 9x/Me.
Deletes groups and items during the uninstall process.
Describes the group and items to be deleted during installation. This section has the same format as the DeiGroupsItems section.
Describes the links to be deleted during installation. This section has the same format as the DeiLinks section.
Describes the folders to be deleted during installation. This section has the same format as the DeiFolders section.
Deletes shortcuts during the uninstall process. This section is used only for Windows NT Technology and Windows 9x/Me.
Deletes folders during the uninstall process. This section is used only for Windows NT Technology and Windows 9x/Me.
Important! Regarding numbering when editing the sections above: If more than one entry exists in the sections, they must be numbered in ascending sequential numeric order! For example, if you begin with four sections (InsLink1 to InsLink4) and later delete the InsLink3 section, you must renumber the InsLink4 section to InsLink3.
