Logging

Federation Manager supports the following types of logging:

• Error logging — records all policy engine error conditions.
• Audit logging — records policy-related transactions (authorization and authentication).

You can manage the following aspects of logging:

• Error log file name and location
• Error file log rollover
• Audit file name and location
• Authentication and authorization event auditing
• Audit log name and location
• Audit log storage type

Perform log management tasks using the command-line tool XPSConfig, which is installed with Federation Manager.

To run XPSConfig

1. Open a command-line window.
2. Enter XPSConfig at the prompt.

   Enter this command exactly as shown in this step because it is case-sensitive on UNIX platforms.

   A product menu displays.

3. Enter the letters for your product.

   A submenu of codes and associated log settings displays. You can enter control-S to stop and start the list from scrolling.

4. (Optional) Enter f at the command prompt to filter through the submenu settings, as the lists for each product can be long.

   For example, to find all the settings related to log rollover, enter f, then at the Enter Filter prompt enter rollover. The tool displays only those settings that contain the word rollover.
