System and Installation Prerequisites

The minimum system requirements for Federation Manager are:

• Memory

  1GB (minimum), 2GB recommended

• Disk Space

  2GB minimum (900M disk space, 700M temporary file location)

• Browser

  Windows Internet Explorer; Mozilla FireFox

• Supported Operating System

Federation Manager has the following installation prerequisites:

• Oracle or SQL Server database

  The server database is used by the policy, key, and session stores. You need to install a database and name the database instance. This instance name is used later when running the Federation Manager Configuration wizard.

  Important! Use a dedicated database instance for Federation Manager. Do not share the Federation Manager database instance with any other application.

  The database administrator must have privileges to create tables in the database and populate the database with data.

  Note: Federation Manager needs a dedicated database instance but not a dedicated database server.

• Java JDK version 1.5 update 10 or later. Major JDK versions before or after 1.5 are not supported
• Javascript must be enabled.
• Federation Manager cannot operate on Solaris 9 platforms using any port below 1024. This limitation includes the default Apache HTTP port (80) and the default Apache SSL port (443).

Important!

Do not install Federation Manager on a system where the SiteMinder Policy Server or Secure Proxy Server (SPS) is already installed. Installing Federation Manager on a SiteMinder system could negatively impact the existing SiteMinder installation.

Do not install Federation Manager on a system where there is an existing Apache Web Server or Apache Tomcat Server.

Do not install SiteMinder or the Secure Proxy Server on a system where Federation Manager is installed, as this might have an adverse effect on Federation Manager.
