Federation Manager Trace and Debug Logging

You can troubleshoot Federation Manager operation by enabling trace and debug logging.

You can configure two kinds of logs for Federation Manager:

• Trace logs

  These files contain general runtime activities and informational statements. The types of trace logs include:

  • Web Agent trace logs for the proxy engine embedded agent. These logs follow Web Agent runtime activities.
  • Federation Web Services trace logs to follow federation run-time activities.

• Debug logs

  These files contain a more detailed level of logging to help debug the product. The types of debug available include:

  • Federation Manager Administration UI debug logging
  • Federation Manager Server trace and debug logging
  • Federation Database objects trace logging

Note: If you enable tracing, large log files can result.

If you use the default path values, the log files are in the directory federation_mgr_home\logs, under the FWS, server, and UI directories. By default, Federation Manager enables the server-side log (federation_mgr_home\ logs\server\.smps.log) and the UI log (federation_mgr_home\logs\ui\server.log) for basic informational logging.

The XPSConfig tool, which is included with Federation Manager is required to enable some of the trace and debug functions. XPSConfig is an interactive command line utility that allows administrators to view product parameters and edit their settings. Run XPSConfig from a system where Federation Manager is installed.
