Data Type Mapping

Data models usually have many attributes or columns so it can be tedious to manually assign and maintain consistency of data types. You can use the data type mapping functionality in the Datatype Standards Editor to simplify this process.

The Data Type Standards Editor can be used to edit default data type mapping for your logical and physical models. For physical models, you can edit the default data type that is automatically attached to each column. For logical models, you can add logical data types and assign the data types to the attributes in the logical model.

You can view or change the default data type mapping when you derive a physical model from a logical model, derive a physical model from a physical model, migrate from one version of a DBMS to a newer version, change the target DBMS, or switch from the logical model to the physical model. You can use default mapping or you can override the defaults and add customized data type mapping requirements.
