The View Column Editor is used for adding view columns and managing the properties of a view column in a physical model.
The Navigation Grid and its toolbar are at the top section of the editor:
Displays the current view in which you are working. You can select a different view to work with using the drop-down control.
Positions the editor on the previous view column in the Navigation Grid.
Positions the editor on the next view column in the Navigation Grid.
Sorts the view columns by physical, alphabetic, or reverse alphabetic order. You select the method you want using the drop-down menu that opens after you click the Sort button. Visual cues are provided for how the view column list is currently sorted:
Specifies that the view column list is sorted in physical order.
Specifies that the view column list is sorted in alphabetic order.
Specifies that the view column list is sorted in reverse alphabetic order.
Creates a new view column that becomes the current object in the editor.
Deletes the selected view column.
Opens the DB Sync wizard so you can perform a database level compare of objects in the current model with matching objects in another model.
Resets column order.
Moves the selected column to the top of the list.
Moves the selected column up one position in the list.
Moves the selected column down one position in the list.
Moves the selected column to the bottom of the list.
Resets all properties to restore inheritance for the selected view column.
Opens online help for the editor.
Lets you filter a very large list of view columns in the Navigation Grid to quickly locate the view column for which you need to view or define properties.
Displays the view column name. You can change the view column name in this field using in-place editing.
Displays the current parent domain.
Specifies the physical data type for the domain. You can change the data type using the drop-down. The drop-down list contains the data types related to the current domain.
Specifies whether view column is a user-defined expression.
Consolidates most of the information about a view column into a single page. Horizontal and vertical splitters enable you to rearrange the area so you have more room in which to edit. This ability, combined with a resizable editor, lets you allocate as much or as little space as you want to the Navigation Grid, the Domain Parent list, or the other view column properties. The Domain Parent list contains a toolbar that lets you sort the domains. You can also inherit, override, or harden a view column's name, or inherit or override a column's physical data type. Visual cues are provided for the Name and Physical Data Type options so that you can see the inheritance setting for each:
Specifies to inherit the view column name or physical data type setting.
Specifies to override inheritance for the view column name or physical data type setting.
Specifies to harden the view column name.
Lets you enter expression text for the view column.
Lets you work with style sheets which are used to format the font used in the display of the view column.
Lets you view where the selected view column is used in the model.
Lets you enter text that provides comments about the view column. Use the toolbar to cut, copy, or paste text, open the Text Editor, or check spelling. The comment serves as internal documentation for your model.
Lets you enter user-defined property values for the view column.
Lets you view history information and view or edit user notes.
Lets you view and update data warehouse source assignments.
Note: This tab is only available if you enabled data movement modeling in the Model Editor.
