Define a DB2 z/OS Storage Group

Use the Storage Group editor to specify parameters for a DB2 z/OS storage group.

To define a DB2 z/OS storage group

  1. Right-click a Storage Group in the Model Explorer and select Properties.

    The DB2 z/OS Storage Group Editor opens.

  2. Select a storage group and work with the following options:

    Note: Click New New icon in property editors to create a new object on the toolbar to create a storage group. Use the Enter filter text text box to filter a large list of storage groups to locate the one you want to work with.

  3. Enter the values and select the options for the storage group:
    Name

    Specifies the name of the storage group.

    VCAT

    Specifies the integrated catalog facility catalog for the storage group. You must specify an alias if the name of the integrated catalog facility catalog is longer than eight characters.

    Generate

    Specifies whether or not to generate DDL for this object during Forward Engineering. Clear the check box if you do not want to generate DDL for this object during Forward Engineering.

  4. Work with the following fields on the General tab:
    Data Class

    Specifies the name of the SMS data class associated with the storage group. The name must be between one and eight charcters in length.

    Management Class

    Specifies the name of the SMS management class associated with the storage group. The name must be between one and eight charcters in length.

    Storage Class

    Specifies the name of the SMS storage class associated with the storage group. The name must be between one and eight charcters in length.

    Disk Volumes

    Specifies the volume id in the Disk Volume list. Click New New icon in property editors to create a new object to create a volume. You can also use the icons above the Disk Volume list to rearrange the order of the items.

  5. Click the Permission tab and grant permissions to users or roles on the selected storage group.
  6. (Optional) Click the Comment tab and enter any comments you want associated with the storage group.
  7. (Optional) Click the Where Used tab to view where the storage group is used in the model.
  8. (Optional) Click the UDP tab to work with user-defined properties for the storage group.
  9. (Optional) Click the Notes tab to view history information and view or edit user notes.
  10. Click Close.

    The DB2 for z/OS Storage Group Editor closes.
