You can use the cut, copy, and paste features to manage model objects and speed the creation of models. Select the model objects you want to copy or cut and then paste them into a new or existing diagram window.
When you copy or cut a model object to the Clipboard, everything about that object is retained. When you copy two or more entities or tables, any relationships between them are automatically copied, along with other related information such as the entity and attribute definitions, verb phrases, notes, integrity constraints, rolenames, and foreign keys.
However, if you copy only one entity or table in a relationship, the relationship is not copied. As a result, foreign key attributes or columns are dropped from the resulting entity or table. For example, if a child entity is copied but not its parent, foreign key attributes that migrated to the child from primary key or alternate key attributes in the parent entity does not show up on the child entity.
When you delete model objects from a diagram or a model, you are prompted to select whether to remove the objects from the entire model or just from the current diagram.
To help you integrate the information in your models with other types of information, such as documents, spreadsheets, or presentations, model objects are copied to the Clipboard as a bitmap (.bmp) and as a metafile (.wmf), which you can paste into a document in another application.
