Use the options on the RI Defaults tab in the Model Properties dialog to specify default referential integrity rules for relationships in a model.
To set default referential integrity rules
The Model Properties dialog opens.
Selects the RI action for one or more of the SQL actions and relationships types from the drop-down lists. You can change the action for the following relationship types:
Applies to all identifying relationships in the model. Available RI settings are RESTRICT, CASCADE, NO ACTION, and NONE.
Applies to all non-identifying relationships in the model for which nulls are allowed. Available RI settings are RESTRICT, CASCADE, SET NULL, SET DEFAULT, NO ACTION, and NONE.
Applies to all non-identifying relationships in the model for which nulls are not allowed. Available RI settings are RESTRICT, CASCADE, SET DEFAULT, NO ACTION, and NONE.
Applies to all subtype relationships in the model. Available RI settings are RESTRICT, CASCADE, NO ACTION, and NONE.
Applies the new default settings to any existing relationship in the model. If you are working with an existing model and change the default settings, you can use this button to implement the new settings in the model for all existing relationships. If you save the new settings but do not rebind, the defaults affect new relationships only.
Clears your settings and return to the system defaults.
Indicates that you want to treat triggers as model objects. When you select this check box, you are prompted with an option to add triggers to existing objects, and to enable or disable the automatic creation of triggers for new objects. When you treat triggers as model objects, you can include them in alter scripts, in Complete Compare scenarios, and in model templates.
Click OK.
Your selections are saved and the Model Properties dialog closes.
