Column Editor Dialog

When you add and maintain columns in a table, you must assign physical properties to the column such as datatype, null option, defaults, validation rules, comments, and user-defined properties. You can manage all column properties in the Column Editor.

In addition to specifying column properties in the Column Editor, you can also assign datatype, edit masks, and other column properties using the Domain Dictionary to define domains. A domain is a named set of column properties that you can attach to one or more columns in a model to quickly and accurately define their properties.

Note: The unique name rules are not enforced for attribute and column names inherited from domains.

Use the Column Editor to view and update the properties for each column in each table in your model. You can assign new values or override any default value attached to a column, and update other properties for a column.

You can open the Column Editor in one of the following ways:

• Select Columns from the Model menu
• Right-click a column in the diagram and select Columns from the menu
• Right-click a column in the Model Explorer and select Properties
• Single-click a column in the Model Explorer and click the Property Editor icon

The Column Editor dialog includes the following tabs:

General Manage the domain, primary key, and physical model display properties for the selected column.

ORACLE Specify the Oracle datatype and Null Option for the selected column. The available options for this tab vary depending upon what version of Oracle you use.

Constraint Enter or edit validation constraints for the selected column.

Comment Add or edit comments for the selected column.

UDP Specify a user-defined property value for the selected column.

Index Manage index membership for the selected column.

History View the history for the selected column.

The following describes all of the other options available in this dialog:

• Table

  Displays the table to which the selected column belongs. You can click on the button to open the Table Editor.

• Column

  Displays the columns that belong to the selected table in the Table list box. Click on either the up or down arrow button to move the selected column up or down in the list.

• New

  Select New to create a new column. Opens the New Column dialog where you can specify the name and other properties for the new column.

• Rename

  Renames a column that you select from the Column list. Opens the Rename Column dialog where you can assign a different name to the column.

• Delete

  Select a column from the Column list that you want to delete, and click the Delete button.

• Reset

  Opens the Reset Column Property dialog where you can select the column properties to reset.

• DB Sync

  Starts the Complete Compare task so you can synchronize the physical objects defined in your model with the information stored on the server.
