You can use the Spanning Neighborhood dialog to include or exclude ancestors or descendants of the selected entity, table, or view in the subject area. You can access the Spanning Neighborhood dialog from the Members tab in the Subject Areas editor.
To include or exclude ancestors or descendants of the selected entity, table, or view in the subject area
The Subject Areas editor opens.
The Members tab opens.
Note: You can display either the logical names or physical names for objects. Under Display Names click Logical or Physical to toggle the display.
The Spanning Neighborhood dialog opens.
Specifies the number of ancestors to include or exclude for the subject area. Select one of the following options:
All
Includes or excludes all ancestors of the selected entity, table, or view in the subject area.
Level
Includes or excludes the level number of ancestors of the selected entity, table, or view that you type in the Level box. For example, if you enter 2, the parent entities (level 1) and the parents of each parent entity (level 2) are included or excluded.
Specifies the number of descendants to include or exclude for the subject area. Select one of the following options:
All
Includes or excludes all descendants of the selected entity, table, or view in the subject area.
Level
Includes or excludes the level number of descendants of the selected entity, table, or view that you type in the Level box. For example, if you enter 2, the children of that entity (level 1) and the children of each child entity (level 2) are included or excluded.
The members of the subject area are defined and the Spanning Neighborhood dialog closes.
The Subject Areas editor closes.
