Install Websphere Portal Server

To install Websphere Portal Server

  1. Log in as a user with administrator privileges.
  2. Insert the Websphere Portal Server installation CD.

    If the installer does not start automatically, navigate to the CD drive and open the install.bat file.

    During the installation, the wizard will prompt you to supply information. The following table lists the information you need for each package:

Read, and accept it if you agree.

Select Full

Websphere Application Server installation path

Confirm that this path is correct.

Note: This full installation will consume approx 4 gigabytes of disk space. Ensure that you have adequate disk space before continuing.

Node name

Enter a name for this instance of WebSphere

WebSphere Application Server hostname

Enter the name of the computer that you are installing on

Websphere Portal installation directory

Confirm that this path is correct.

System Logon User ID

If you want to start the Websphere components as a service, define a user account that the service can log in as.

WebSphere Portal administrative user

Create a user name and password that you will use later to log in to the Websphere portal.

This user does not need to exist within Windows: this account is internal to the portal only.

  1. Later in the installation process, enter the installation CDs when prompted.
  2. In the last installation screen, de-select the Launch First Steps check box, and then click Finish.

    The installation has completed.

  3. Restart the computer.
