Using the NBA console, you can set the status and operation mode to control how the NBA handles data leaving or entering your corporate network. The important settings are as follows:
In effect, this turns the NBA on or off. When packet processing is off, the NBA is offline and does not perform any filtering, analysis or storage of network traffic.
When packet processing is on, the NBA is online and the Stream Blocking and Output Mode settings determine how data packets are handled.
Note: Even if the NBA is offline, including when the appliance is turned off, it still passes packets between Data Inspection ports .
This refers to individual data streams passing through the NBA. When stream blocking is switched on, the NBA can capture, analyze, and block files and emails. When stream blocking is off, it can only capture and analyze files and emails. In effect, this setting toggles the NBA between active and passive mode.
When stream blocking is switched on, the NBA can only block files and emails if it is inline between the corporate LAN and the Internet.
To be able to decode SSL sessions, the NBA must be inline and stream blocking must be switched on.
This setting determines what the NBA does with captured data. You can set it to output files and emails to folders on the local disk, or via a socket connection to a hub or policy engines, or to both or neither.
