Policy Engines Overview

Policy engines can process emails or files arriving from an external source and apply capture and control triggers to these emails where necessary. Emails and files are allocated to individual policy engines by a policy engine hub. Policy engines enable CA DLP to integrate directly with:

Exchange Server or Lotus Domino

The Exchange and Domino server agents allow CA DLP to monitor and control corporate email activity that would otherwise be missed by Outlook and Notes client integration alone.

Third party archive solutions

Policy engines receive emails from an archive agent and apply smart tags (typically an email category and a retention date) before the emails are archived.

FSA

The File Scanning Agent (FSA) can scan and analyze files saved in remote file systems and apply appropriate controls.

Event Import

Policy engines can also be connected to Event Import as part of an Import Policy job, in order to apply policy to emails or files.

• For files, Import Policy enables organizations to apply policy to any files stored on their network. For example, organizations can categorize or apply smart tags to important business documents or reports.
• For emails, Import Policy provides organizations with a full compliance review capability that is not dependent on a preventative pre-review strategy for filtering email communications at source.
