Resource Availability

Availability refers to time available for work. Initially, a resource's daily availability is determined by the number entered in the Availability field on their profile. By default, that number is 8. CA Clarity PPM then multiplies this number by 5, which is the number of business days in a standard work week. So if someone enters 7 in an Availability field, CA Clarity PPM will determine that the resource is able to work 7 hours a day, 5 days a week, for a total of 35 hours per week. If you enter 8, CA Clarity PPM will assume that the resource is available to work 8 hours a day for a total of 40 hours per week.

Whenever a resource is booked to an investment as a staff member, CA Clarity PPM begins tracking allocated time against available time. CA Clarity PPM allows the over-allocation of resource availability to keep staffing flexible and dynamic. However, an over-allocated resource may not be able to perform the work efficiently or complete it by the established end date. Thus, it is important to keep abreast of how your resources are being allocated to investment or services. The Resource Planning feature is an excellent tool for monitoring resource allocations and comparing resource allocation to availability. You can also use this feature to change allocations.
