Define Resource and Role Allocations

Use the Resource/Role Allocations page to view and edit information about the investments, services, and ideas to which a resource or role is assigned. You can change booking status, and edit allocations by date or percentage. In addition, you can add and remove investments and services from both pages.

The Allocations tab consists of two pages that you can access from the subtabs on the page toolbar:

Summary

This is the default Resource/Role Allocations page, which displays data in a table format. Use this tab to view and change booking status and allocation information for each investment and service to which the resource or role is assigned.

Detail

This page displays editable allocation data by investment by week in a histogram format. To view this page, open the resource, and then select the Allocations tab. The Summary subtab is selected by default, and the Resource/Role Allocations Summary page appears.

When you change allocations from resource management pages, you only change investment-level information, specifically, the resource or role's allocations to the investment or service itself. These dates may differ from the ones to which the resource or role has been assigned to project tasks.

Best Practices: Use the resource management pages to change a resource or role's investment allocations only if you are the manager of the investment to which the resource or role has been assigned. Instead, change allocations from within the investment, from the investment's Team: Staff page. If you are a resource manager, and edit a resource's allocations from the resource planning pages, communicate your changes to the investment's manager.

Though the changes you make on the Allocations tab appear on the investment's Team: Staff page, it is a good idea to let the manager know directly so that, if needed, the manager can adjust task assignments and the investment's schedule accordingly.
