Select Members of a Subject Area

You use the Members tab in the Subject Areas editor to identify the entities, tables, views, and references to subject areas that are members of a subject area. Available Objects displays the available entities, tables, views, and references to subject areas that can be members of the selected subject area; Included Objects displays the entities, tables, views, and references to subject areas that are currently members of the selected subject area.

To select the members of a subject area

  1. Click Subject Areas on the Model menu.

    The Subject Areas editor opens.

  2. Click the Members tab.

    The Members tab opens.

  3. Select a subject area from the Subject Area list to which you want to add members, use any combination of the following options, then click OK.

    Note: You can display either the logical names or physical names for objects. Under Display Names click Logical or Physical to toggle the display.

    Available Objects

    Displays objects that are available to be included as members of the selected subject area. Click the button to move a selected object to the Included Objects list, or click the button to move all objects to the Included Objects list.

    Note: You cannot move all references to subject areas.

    Select the object you want to include in the subject area. Click to open the Spanning Neighborhood dialog, and make your selections for the following options:

    Ancestors

    Specifies the number of ancestors to include in the subject area. Select All or select Level and enter the number of ancestors to include.

    Descendants

    Specifies the number of descendants to include in the subject area. Select All or select Level and enter the number of descendants to include. For example, if you enter 2, the children of that entity (level 1) and the children of each child entity (level 2) are included.

    Included Objects

    Displays objects that are currently included as members of the selected subject area. Click the button to remove a selected object from the Included Objects list and move it to the Available Objects list, or click the button to move all objects to the Available Objects list.

    Note: You cannot move all references to subject areas.

    Select the object you want to exclude from the subject area. Click to open the Spanning Neighborhood dialog, and make your selections for the following options:

    Ancestors

    Specifies the number of ancestors to exclude from the subject area. Select All or select Level and enter the number of ancestors to exclude.

    Descendants

    Specifies the number of descendants to exclude from the subject area. Select All or select Level and enter the number of descendants to exclude. For example, if you enter 2, the children of that entity (level 1) and the children of each child entity (level 2) are excluded.

    The members of a subject area are selected, and the Subject Areas editor closes.
