Oracle Tablespace Editor - General Tab

Use the General tab to add and specify the parameters for a tablespace. The following describes the options available for this tab:

Type

There are three Type options for a tablespace. The options available for each type vary based on the Type option that you select and your Oracle version. The following section details the options available by Type:

PERMANENT

When you select a PERMANENT tablespace, the following are the options available:

Extent Management

Select either the DICTIONARY or the LOCAL option. If you select LOCAL, then select one of the following for the LOCAL option:

  • Use Default
  • AUTOALLOCATE
  • UNIFORM If you select this option, enter a value in the SIZE text box and select a value in the drop-down.
BLOCK SIZE

Enter a value in the text box and select a value in the drop-down. This option is only available for Oracle 9i and 10g.

FORCE LOGGING

Select this check box to enable force logging for the tablespace. This option is only available for Oracle 9i and 10g.

Segment Management

Select either the MANUAL or the AUTO option. This option is only available for Oracle 9i and 10g.

Logging Type

Select either LOGGING or NOLOGGING.

Compress Type

Select either COMPRESS or NOCOMPRESS. This option is only available for Oracle 9i and 10g.

Storage File Type

Select either BIGFILE or SMALLFILE. This option is only available for Oracle 10g.

Flashback Type

Select either FLASHBACK ON or FLASHBACK OFF. This option is only available for Oracle 10g.

TEMPORARY

When you select a TEMPORARY tablespace, the following are the options available:

Extent Management

Select either the DICTIONARY or the LOCAL option. If you select LOCAL, then select one of the following for the LOCAL option:

  • Use Default
  • UNIFORM If you select this option, enter a value in the SIZE text box and select a value in the drop-down.
BLOCK SIZE

Enter a value in the text box and select a value in the drop-down. This option is only available for Oracle 9i and 10g.

FORCE LOGGING

Select this check box to enable force logging for the tablespace. This option is only available for Oracle 9i and 10g.

Tablespace Group

Select an existing tablespace group, or click the to open the Oracle Tablespace Group Editor where you can add a new tablespace group or edit the properties of an existing tablespace group. This option is only available for Oracle 10g.

Segment Management Manual

This option is only available for Oracle 9i and 10g.

Logging Type

Select either LOGGING or NOLOGGING.

Status

Select one of the following options:

  • ONLINE READ WRITE
  • ONLINE READ ONLY
  • OFFLINE
Compress Type

Select either COMPRESS or NOCOMPRESS. This option is only available for Oracle 9i and 10g.

Storage File Type

Select either BIGFILE or SMALLFILE.

UNDO

The UNDO tablespace is available only for Oracle 9i and 10g. When you select an UNDO tablespace, the following are the options available:

Extent Management

When you select the LOCAL option, select one of the following:

  • Use Default
  • AUTOALLOCATE
BLOCK SIZE

Enter a value in the text box and select a value in the drop-down.

Status

Select one of the following options:

  • ONLINE
  • OFFLINE
Retention Guarantee

Select either GUARANTEE or NOGUARANTEE. Available for Oracle 10g only.

Storage File Type

Select either BIGFILE or SMALLFILE.

Flashback Type

Select either FLASHBACK ON or FLASHBACK OFF. This option is only available for Oracle 10g.
