Define a Teradata Index

You can use the Table Index or Join Index editor to create a set of new indexes on an existing table or join index in a Teradata physical model.

To define a Teradata index

  1. Click Indexes, Table or Join Index on the Model menu.

    The Table Index or Join Index Editor opens.

  2. Select an index and work with the following options:

    Note: Click New <New> icon in property editors on the toolbar to create a new table index or join index.

    Physical Name

    Specifies the physical name of the index.

    Type

    Shows the key group type. This is a read-only field.

    Is Unique

    Specifies that the fields defined in the index must be unique.

    Is Unnamed

    Lets you select if Forward Engineering is to emit the name of the object.

    Physical Only

    Lets you select whether the table should be suppressed from a logical model and appear in a physical model only.

    Generate

    Generates DDL for this object during Forward Engineering.

    Show FK Indexes

    Select this check box to display Foreign Key indexes.

    Note: The new index added is a secondary index unless you select the Primary Index check box on the Options tab.

  3. Complete the following fields on the General tab:
    Index Members

    The columns for the table that has the index and are key group members appear. You can select any of the columns to be a key group member. The columns can be sorted.

  4. Work with the other tabs in the editor to access additional design features, for example:
  5. (Optional) Click the Comment tab and enter any comments you want associated with the index.
  6. (Optional) Click the UDP tab to work with user-defined properties for the index.
  7. Click Close.

    The Index editor closes.
