Database Connection Parameters

The connection parameters in the Database Connection dialog vary depending on the target server you select.

The variable connection parameters in CA ERwin Data Modeler are:

For SQL Server:

Connection Type

Select Use Native Connection to connect using the API provided by the SQL Server Native client software. Select Use ODBC Data to connect using the ODBC data source you have defined.

Server

Enter the server name.

Database

Enter the name of the database.

For Sybase and Sybase IQ:

Server

Enter the server name.

Database

Enter the name of the database.

For Oracle:

Connection String

Enter the connection string (TNSNames entry).

For ODBC/Generic, DB2 UDB, Foxpro, Informix, Ingres, iSeries, MySQL, Progress, Red Brick, SAS, and Teradata:

ODBC Data Source

Enter the data source, or leave the default selection unchanged. When you click the ODBC Data Source box, a drop-down list displays the data sources defined on your machine.

Invoke ODBC Administrator

Select the check box to start the ODBC Administrator software and display the Select Data Source dialog. You can then select a previously defined data source, or create a new one.

For DB2/zOS:

Alternate Catalog

Enter the name of the alternate catalog you want to use for the connection. If you leave this value empty, the connection is made to the system catalog. If appropriate, you may consider connecting to the alternate catalog for faster reverse engineering.

For Access:

Database

Enter the name of the database (.mdb file).

System Database

(optional) Enter the name of the system database (workspace - .mdw file).

Database Password

(optional) Enter the database password.

Enter the server name.

Database

Enter the name of the database.

For Oracle:

Connection String

Enter the connection string (TNSNames entry).
