SMP/E installs software changes (called SYSMODs) in the system’s libraries using batch SMP/E commands or online ISPF/PDF displays. Through these commands and displays, SMP/E invokes standard system utilities to perform actual installation or maintenance functions. SMP/E tracks the SYSMOD installations in its own database, the CSI.
