Jobs are processed on a z/OS system by a job entry subsystem, JES2 or JES3. Each JES subsystem schedules the work moving through the computer and performs spooling operations. Although the two z/OS job entry subsystems have similar names, they evolved from two different sources. JES2 is the z/OS version of HASP (Houston Automatic Spooling and Priority System) and JES3 is the z/OS version of ASP (Asymmetric Processing System).
