Because the inference engine, under JSR‑94, is external to the Java client application, it is necessary to add instances from the client side to the inference engine side and to retrieve the results of inferencing back to the client application. How Java instances are added to and retrieved from the inferencing side depends upon whether the client application has established a stateful or a stateless RuleSession.
