4.0 Installation Considerations

Installation and upgrade procedures for this release of CA Aion Rule Manager are documented in the Product Guide.

Be sure to back up your existing user files and Aion applications prior to uninstalling the CA Aion Rule Manager.

All CA Aion Rule Manager components use a SQL Server Database known as the Rule Manager Database (RMDB) for their repository.

4.1 SQL Server RMDB Support Instructions

CA Aion Rule Manager supports the use of SQL Server to host the RMDB. If you select SQL Server support during installation, you are prompted for specific information such as the SQL Server TCP/IP port number. The RMDB is installed within your specified SQL Server and CA Aion Rule Manager services are configured to access it.

If you wish to install CA Aion Rule Manager and use SQL Server to host the RMDB, note the following before installation:

The installation automatically adds the account name you provided during installation to the following groups:

If you wish to install CA Aion Rule Manager and use SQL Server 2008 or 2008 R2 to host the RMDB, note the following after installation:

4.2 Requirements for Installing CA Aion Rule Manager

To install CA Aion Rule Manager on Microsoft Windows, you must log onto Microsoft Windows as a user with administrator privileges.

Universal Naming Convention is not supported with CA Aion Rule Manager; all installation routines must be performed from a physical drive or a mapped drive.

4.3 JBoss Considerations

The CA Aion Rule Manager r11 installs successfully only on the JBoss 4.0.3 SP1 Application server with the specified version.

Avoid installing any other application involving server configuration changes in the same node on which the CA Aion Rule Manager r11 is installed.

If you have chosen to use JBoss application server(same node) on which the CA Aion rule Manager r11 has been uninstalled earlier, ensure that the CA Aion Rule Manager's portal security and login configurations are deleted from the login-config.xml in the installed jboss node's conf directory.

5.0 General Considerations

5.1 Restrictions on Data Columns Selected for Creating Rules from Existing Data

When creating rules from existing data, the data columns selected must not contain freeform(continious) text, however text data can be used if it is categorical (for example, Red, Blue, and Green).

Integer data is considered either continuous or categorical, depending on the number of unique values found. A property in the cpaa.properties file sets this number; by default it is set to five (5).

If there are more than five distinct numerical values in a column, the data is treated as continuous.

If there are five or fewer distinct numerical values in a data column, the data is treated as categorical.

A data column selected for output (THEN results) must not contain categories that change. This restriction is imposed by the web-based interface.

The input business terms to be selected for creating the rules from existing data can be either of string or numeric data type, and the output term to be selected for creating the rules from existing data can be of string data type only.

5.2 Using Machine Name

We recommend that CA Aion Rule Manager always be referenced in the web browser using the machine name rather than localhost, to ensure interoperability of all components.

5.3 EEM URL Considerations

If you connect to EEM, either directly or via the Portal Admin, and you specify the URL using a domain name, there may be connection issues unless the browser is configured to always allow cookies at the specified URL.

To configure Internet Explorer to always allow cookies

  1. Select Internet Options, Privacy, Sites,
  2. Add the domain name to the Always Allow list.

To configure Firefox to always allow cookies

  1. Select Tools, Options.
  2. Click the Privacy icon.
  3. Click Exceptions.
  4. Enter the URL and click Allow.

6.0 Known Issues

Known issues, workarounds, and solutions for this release of CA Aion Rule Manager can be found at http://ca.com/support. Use the SupportConnect link to access the latest product information.

6.1 Silent Installer

Sometimes, the installer starts in GUI mode when the Rule Manager installer is run in silent mode. If it happens, exit the installer and re-run it in silent mode.

6.2 EEM certificate

In installer, While configuring existing EEM server, applications which are already registered can be specified. However, respective certificate needs to be specified, if user does not choose to create new certificate.

Installer doesn't validate selected certificate against specified Application Instance, if other application instances have certificates having same password.

To avoid this conflict, users can specify Application Instance to be within certificate file name. This will help to identify application instance and associated certificate.

Example

App1 is registered with certificate Cert1. Cert1 has password abc.

App2 is registered with certificate Cert2. Cert2 also has password abc.

While installing, if App1 is specified as application instance, only Cert1 certificate can be used or new certificate can be created. Cert2 cannot be used. If Cert2 is specified, installer will not validate this. In this case, Rule Manager will not function properly.

6.3 Feature selection in installer

If CA Aion Rule Manager is being re-installed, that is, if CA Aion Rule Manager feature is already installed on computer where installation is being carried out, CA Aion Rule Manager feature cannot be selected for installation unless existing CA Aion Rule Manager installation is uninstalled using Add or Remove Programs. However, user can continue to configure CA Aion Rule Manager and/or EEM.

Installer displays this message to user. But if user navigates back to Choose Install Set screen, sometimes, CA Aion Rule Manager feature remains selected. If user has selected only CA Aion Rule Manager feature, message will be shown and user will be taken to Pre-Installation Summary page. Here, if Install is clicked, installer will say Installation successful. But actually nothing will be installed on target computer.

6.4 Directories with Special Characters

Problem:

The CA Aion Rule Manager will not work if it is installed into a directory that contains special characters in its name.

Circumvention:

When Aion Rule Manager is installed in a directory that contains special characters like Program Files (x86), a virtual drive should be created for the Rule Manager installation path before running the installer.

For Example assume that Aion Rule Manager has to be installed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\AionRM". Define a virtual drive for that RM installation path using command prompt before running installer as follows:

subst X: "C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\AionRM"

While running the installer, select the virtual drive instead of actual path. The virtual drive must be re-created whenever the computer is re-booted.

6.5 64-bit OS

6.5.1 Rule Manager License Problem

While logging into Rule Manager, the jboss server log file will contain error messages about failing to load 32-bit dll on 64-bit platform

6.5.2 Rule from Data Functionality

You cannot use the Look-up Rule from data functionally as Look-up Rule from data will not work.

6.6 Look-up Rule from Data

You cannot use the Look-up Rule from data functionally using data from DB2 as Look-up Rule from data will not work.

6.7 Add Iteration Variable

In the Add Content page, on uploading a file which is more than 2GB in size, the page breaks.

6.8 Portlet state restoration fails intermittently

Problem:

In some cases, while navigating through CA Aion Rule Manager, if the user minimizes the portlet and then try to restore it, the portlet displays the following error:

Error: The ID supplied is not for a folder.

Circumvention:

Click on Home Link located at top-right corner of browser to restore to default view.

6.9 Move or Delete Duplicate Vocabulary

Problem:

If terms within a vocabulary are used by rules, and that vocabulary is duplicated, then the terms of the duplicated vocabulary or the duplicated vocabulary itself cannot be deleted and the location of the duplicate vocabulary cannot be changed.

Circumvention:

For moving the duplicated vocabulary, instead of duplicating the vocabulary, the entire project can be duplicated. After deleting the dependent rules, the vocabulary can be moved to any other project.
