4.0 General Considerations
The following section provides general
information to consider when using Arcserve Backup Patch
Manager:
- To allow email notifications to be sent, an
SMTP server needs to be available and configured for use. To verify
the email notification settings, you can view the Email Settings
tab options of the Preferences dialog.
Note: By default,
MX (Mail Exchange) will be used to deliver email notifications to
users on your domain (through Microsoft Exchange), if no service is
specified.
- If necessary, a proxy server can be
configured during installation. To verify or configure the proxy
server settings after installation, you can view the Proxy Settings
tab options of the Preferences dialog.
- During installation of Arcserve Backup Patch
Manager, the following applications will also be automatically
installed:
Note: Exact
version numbers may be subject to change.
- Microsoft .NET Framework version 3.5
SP1
- Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1
Redistributable
- Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML
4.0)
- CAPKI 4.1.1
- Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1
- You can remotely install the Arcserve Backup
Patch Manager on Vista machines, but may need to disable local
account filtering first. User Account Control (UAC) is a Vista
feature that blocks local administrative accounts from remotely
accessing administrative shares (C$, Admin$).
Before you begin, determine whether the
Vista machine is part of a domain or part of a workgroup. Use a
Domain Administrative account if the target computer is part of a
domain. Grant a domain account with administrator privileges on the
Vista machine and use that domain account to log on. You may then
remotely install the Arcserve Backup Patch Manager on the Vista
machine.
If the target computer is part of a
workgroup, disable the client computer's local account filtering
policy by creating a new registry key, as follows:
DWORD value:
LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy
Location:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\system\
New Value:
1
After installation, set the
LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy setting to 0 to re-enable local
account filtering.
5.0 Known Issues
The following sections provide information
about issues (and limitations) known to exist in Arcserve Backup
Patch Manager for this release.
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Core is not
supported.
- For a staging server, the IIS on your local
machine must have the Default HTTP Site available and running. If
it is not running, the "PatchesRoot" HTTP location directory
(destination for all patch downloads) will not be created.
- For Windows Vista and Windows 2008
platforms, if a patch for the Arcserve Backup Patch Manager is
installed, you will need to relaunch Arcserve Backup Patch Manager
manually to apply the patches.
- If a patch for the Arcserve Backup Patch
Manager is installed, you will not receive an email notification
for this self-patch installation even if you are configured to be
automatically notified.

An internationalized
product is an English product that runs correctly on local language
versions of the required operating system and required third-party
products and supports local language data for input and output.

local language conventions for date, time, currency, and number
formats.
A translated product
(sometimes referred to as a localized

language support for the product's user interface, online help and
other documentation, as well as local language default settings for
date, time, currency, and number formats.
