The VSS writer returned error code ([VSS error code]).

Reason:

This error occurs under the following conditions:

• The VSS service on the Arcserve D2D server is not running on the Arcserve D2D server.
• The VSS writer on the Arcserve D2D server is in an unstable state.
• The VSS writer on the Arcserve D2D server is being used by other applications to create shadow copies.
• The database files are restored to a SQL server that is not supported.
• The destination machine SQL Server does not contain the same DB instance name that was installed in the same path structure as the source DB instance name.

Action:

To remedy these problems, do the following:

• Verify that the VSS writer on the Arcserve D2D server started properly.
• Verify that all system state writers on the Arcserve D2D server are in a stable state using the vssadmin command.
• Verify that there are no other applications using the VSS writer on the Arcserve D2D server. Arcserve Backup must have exclusive access to the VSS writer to perform backup operations with the Arcserve D2D server.
• Review the Event Log for VSS-related error messages.
• Verify that the destination machine SQL Server version is the same as the source machine SQL Server.
• Verify that the destination machine of the SQL server contains the same database instance name as the original SQL server database instance name.
