VM Unmount Operations Fail

Valid on Windows platforms.

Symptom:

On virtual machines, unmount operations fail after successful mount operations.

Solution:

Unmount operations can fail under the following conditions:

• The mount path is not correct.
• An incorrect mount mode was specified, for example, File or Raw (Full VM).
• Some of the catalog files may have been deleted in the mount point.
• You deleted or tried to delete the VCB mount snapshot.
• The VM is moved to a different VMware ESX Host system during the backup operation using VMotion.
• VMware Converter is not installed on the backup proxy system.

  Note: VMware converter is not required to restore virtual machine data that was backed up using VDDK.

To correct this problem, manually delete the VCB mount snapshot of the VM using the VI Client. If the delete operation fails, restart the VM and then delete the VCB mount snapshot for the VM.

To view log information for mount and unmount operations, view the file labeled Mount_jnl.log, which is stored in the Log folder under the Client Agent installation directory.
