How to Select the Proper Location

You must select a proper location both for backup as well as restore. The following considerations apply:

• Available disk size—The Agent for SharePoint 2007 stores some data in a dump location during backup and restore. You should ensure that there is enough disk space to hold all the components that will be backed up. If you want to know how much disk space is required for the backup job, open the Backup Manager, select the component to be backed up, and then check the disk space required.

  

• Available Network Band—You must select an available network band for the differential dump location depending on your network traffic and costs involved. Consider the following:
  • CA ARCserve Server costs less because the data is transferred once.
  • CA ARCserve SharePoint Agent (Local Machine) and Other (NAS, File) Server Name cost more as the data may be transferred twice.
• ARCserve Server and SharePoint 2007 Agent Location-CA ARCserve SharePoint Agent (Local Machine) and Other (NAS, File) Server Name support all of the following four scenarios:
  • Agent and server are installed in a single windows domain.
  • Agent and server are installed in two different domains and one domain trusts another.
  • Agent and server are installed in different Windows domains, and there is no trust relationship.
  • Either the agent or the server is installed in a workgroup and the other is installed in a domain.

  Note: CA ARCserve Server supports only the first two scenarios mentioned above.
