Reason:

This error occurs under the following conditions:

• The VSS service on the CA ARCserve D2D server is not running on the CA ARCserve D2D server.
• The VSS writer on the CA ARCserve D2D server is in an unstable state.
• The VSS writer on the CA ARCserve D2D server is being used by other applications to create shadow copies.

Action:

To remedy these problems, do the following:

• Verify that the VSS writer on the CA ARCserve D2D server started properly.
• Verify that all system state writers on the CA ARCserve D2D server are in a stable state using the vssadmin command.
• Verify that there are no other applications using the VSS writer on the CA ARCserve D2D server. CA ARCserve Backup must have exclusive access to the VSS writer to perform backup operations with the CA ARCserve D2D server.
• Review the Event Log for VSS-related error messages.
