Error AE0435

Failed to gather system state VSS writers.

Reason:

There are several reasons for this message:

• VSS service is not started
• Some system state Writers(System Writer, Registry Writer, COM+ REGDB Writer, NTDS or FRS Writer and so) are in bad state
• Some other services/applications/tools are taking shadow copy at the time.

Action:

To solve this problem, perform one of the following:

• Check to make sure VSS service is started properly
• Use vssadmin command to make sure all system state writers are in stable state
• Make sure there is no other services/applications/tools which are taking shadow copy at the time
• Check the Event Log for VSS related message.
