How CA ARCserve Backup Processes Encrypted CA ARCserve D2D Backup Sessions

CA ARCserve D2D lets you protect sensitive data using data encryption. The data is protected using an encryption password that you specify when the backup is submitted. To recover the CA ARCserve D2D data, you specify the password when you submit the restore.

To back up CA ARCserve D2D sessions to CA ARCserve Backup media, you add the CA ARCserve D2D servers to the Backup Manager Source directory tree before you can submit backups. The process of adding the CA ARCserve D2D servers to the Source tree requires you to specify the CA ARCserve D2D computer name and credentials (user name and password). CA ARCserve Backup uses the CA ARCserve D2D credentials to retrieve the CA ARCserve D2D encryption password, to decrypt the data, and to back up the data to CA ARCserve Backup media. As a result, CA ARCserve Backup stores the CA ARCserve D2D backup sessions on CA ARCserve Backup media in decrypted format.

To recover CA ARCserve D2D data from CA ARCserve Backup media, a password is not required. If you want to encrypt the CA ARCserve D2D data on CA ARCserve Backup media, you can specify CA ARCserve Backup encryption options when you submit the job. For more information about encryption options, see Backup Manager Encryption/Compression Options.
