View Device Records Information

The Device Records window displays information about the media devices used to backup your data. This includes information about device type, device statistics, and the number of errors that have occurred while CA ARCserve Backup was using the device.

To view information about the media devices used to back up your data:

1. Select Device Records from within the Database Manager tree view.

   The list view window displays information on all devices that have been used by CA ARCserve Backup.

2. Highlight a media device to display device information.

To view information about a specific tape device:

1. Highlight a media device in the right pane.
2. Select the Statistics tab or the Errors tab in the Properties window.
   • A media error indicates that some sort of data corruption has occurred on the media and the read or write operation could not be successfully completed.
   • A soft error indicates that the tape drive detected a problem when it was trying to write to the media but was able to correct the problem by retrying the operation.

   Use this field to determine the quality of your tape. Remember, it is normal for a tape drive to always generate a certain number of soft write errors. The problem occurs when the number of errors is very high in relation to the amount of data being written.
