Group Inactivity Timeout Field

This is the default value applied to all new groups added using the Files tab of the Configuration screen. CA ARCserve Backup Agent for Open Files uses the Group Inactivity Timeout to determine when to close an open group if none of the files in the group are open by the client, but not all the files in the group have been processed by the client. This value is applied to the selected server.

Example: Group Inactivity Timeout

If there are five files in a group, and the Group Inactivity Timeout is set to 2 hours, a timeout occurs if the backup client takes more than 2 hours from the time it finishes backing up file 4 until the time it opens file 5. (This can happen if the files are in different volumes, the drive ran out of tape, or the backup aborted, and so on). If a timeout occurs, this event is noted in the log, the group is automatically closed, and the preview data is not retained.

Note: It is recommended that this be set to at least the amount of time typically taken for the client to perform a complete backup run.
