Group Inactivity Timeout

This setting, which applies only to groups, is used by the Agent for Open Files to determine when to close an open group if the backup client has not accessed all of the files in the group, and none of the files is currently open.

Example: Group Inactivity Timeout

If there are five files in a group, and the Group Inactivity Timeout is set to 2 hours, a timeout occurs if the backup client takes more than 2 hours from the time it finishes backing up file 4 until the time it opens file 5. (This can happen if the files are in different volumes, the drive ran out of tape, or the backup aborted, and so on). If a timeout occurs, this event is noted in the log, the group is automatically closed, and the preview data is not retained.

To restore the default Group Inactivity Timeout:

Note: We recommend that you set the Group Inactivity Timeout to at least the time normally taken by the backup process.
