When you back up a local or remote CA ARCserve Backup client computer, the computer-specific information required to perform disaster recovery tasks is saved on the CA ARCserve Backup server.
If the CA ARCserve Backup server fails, computer-specific disaster recovery information can be lost as well. To avoid this type of data loss, the option can store computer-specific disaster recovery information to a remote location on an alternate computer. This feature allows you to access disaster recovery information if the CA ARCserve Backup server fails and create machine-specific recovery disks.
Note: If you are upgrading or migrating from an earlier version of CA ARCserve Backup or BrightStor Enterprise Backup, and you had previously configured an alternate location in which to store disaster recovery information, you can use the same location with the CA ARCserve Backup Disaster Recovery Option.
The alternate location has a directory with the same name as the computer or computers you are recovering. Copy the contents of this directory to a disk. The newly created disk becomes your machine-specific recovery disk.
Note: When you back up a computer running Windows XP or Window 2003, the option creates a drpatch.xp folder in the alternate computer location directory. Copy the files in the drpatch.xp folder to the machine-specific recovery disks.
You can enable this feature while configuring the option during installation, or at a later time using the wizard. To enable this feature, you must first create a shared folder on the remote computer and configure the option to send information to that location.
